Thanks for this one Joey!
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth full sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don’t search around for the coolest book you can find. Use what’s actually nearest to you.*
“As if having marched straight to the shop from their covens.”
This sentence comes from The Electric Michelangelo by Sarah Hall. It refers to the women who get inked at the tattoo parlour owned by protagonist Cyril Parks’ mentor, Eliot Riley.
I just finished this incredible book today. Vast, detailed, lyrical and highly engaging, it’s a bona-fide piece of art. Check it out.
*I have to confess that I cheated somewhat – the nearest book to me is actually Josef Fronek’s Velky Cesko-Anglicky slovnik (Big Czech-English Dictionary – the link is to Fronek’s USD 57.17 Czech-English/English-Czech dictionary). The fifth full sentence on page 123 is – I kid you not – the following, from one of the definitions of dobry (good):
Je dobra do postele. (She’s a good lay.)
